Small format is one of the hot topics in retail right now, brands as diverse as Pets at Home and B&Q are experimenting with stores that are much smaller than the large formats we're used to.
These brands talk about bringing their out-of-town offerings onto more central high streets. I'm hoping they don't take their music with them though.
One of the most overlooked aspects of in-store music is considering the space in which the music is played. The acoustics of a big cavernous store are very different to a smaller space. In these large out-of-town stores you have to be careful what you play as certain beats and BPMs will bounce all over the place creating a hot mess of sound.
In smaller stores the music is more in your face, so we've got to consider the lyrics and the overall tone of the tracks. The last thing we want is the music to be over powering.
Size of space is just one of the considerations in building a brilliant brand sound that drives store profitability. If you want to know more hit "contact us" above.
